We Are Bear Aware

Mr. Tom from Alaska Fish & Game came to visit us to teach us how to be BEAR & MOOSE AWARE!
We learned a lot of interesting information. For example:
-most bears and moose are shy and don't like people
-we need to keep our yards clean (only put up bird feeders in the winter and take them down in the spring) and our trash secure so that a bear or moose doesn't think it is food
-it is important to hike in groups, stay together, and make a lot of noise when hiking
We learned that if you see a bear it is important to stay calm and back away quietly. BUT if a bear comes toward you...
1. DO NOT RUN
2. Stay together
3. Make yourself look big by waving your arms
4. Make noise
We learned that if you see a moose it is important to stay calm and back away quietly as well. BUT if the moose runs toward you, his ears are pointing down, and he looks mad...
1. RUN
2. Hide behind something big like a tree

Mr. Tom was a terrific teacher and we now know how to be safe around bear and moose.
