Sea Star Exploration

As part of our Alaskan Animals study, we examined sea star specimens closely with a magnifying glass.  We learned that sea stars have a mouth on the bottom of their body and that they eat oysters and clams.  We found out that sea stars have spines for protection, and that since they live on coral reefs and the ocean floor, they also use camouflage to blend into their habitat to hide from predators.  We learned that most sea stars have five arms and that each arm has an eye at the end that can only see darkness and light.  We also found out that sea stars have tube feet on the bottom of their bodies that help them move slowly.  After we observed the sea stars we completed a diagram of a sea star in our science journal and labeled the parts of the sea star that we learned about.
