If You Give A Kid A Pancake...

He or she will want syrup, butter, whip cream, blueberries, and strawberries to go with it and then he/she will gobble it up!

We had such a wonderful pancake breakfast as a class last Friday.  Thank you to all of the parents who sent in items so that the pancake breakfast was a success and a special thank you to Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. LaChapelle for helping serve the pancakes to the class.

We just finished up studying the author Laura Numeroff. To learn more about her you can visit her website... http://www.lauranumeroff.com/index.htm
Laura Numeroff is the author of the book series that began with the story If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.
She has added many wonderful stories to her collection and you can learn more about them at this website... http://www.mousecookiebooks.com/play.asp
We had a ton of fun reading the Laura Numeroff books.
We focused on the story If You Give A Pig A Pancake. We read the story aloud as a class, read it with a partner, and read it in small groups.

We talked about how the author infused 'cause and effect' into the story and how we can better understand the story by recalling the events that occurred. We also talked about 'fantasy and realism' and the parts of the story that were make-believe and the parts of the story that could happen in real-life.

Each student made a replica of the delightful pig character and wrote about his/her favorite pancake toppings. Here is a student sample...
We wrapped up the author study by making pancakes as a class and then each student added his/her preferred toppings.
