Then we focused on our first classroom rule...
We will go over the other class rules as the school week progresses.
Next we played a fun game called 'Find Someone Who' and practiced being good listeners as we traveled around the room looking for classmates who like to swim, like to read, like to fly kites, etc.
Then it was time to get out and about for a tour of the school and a quick morning recess.
When we returned we enjoyed another great story entitled Boomer Goes To School and had some snack.
Next we learned the calendar routine.
We practiced counting by 10's, 5's, and 2's. We also practiced using tally marks, talked about place value, learned about odd and even numbers, graphed the weather, and identified patterns.
Then we read a story entitled Best Friends and learned that every story has a beginning, middle, and end. After reading the story we summarized the important parts and every student drew a picture of something they like to do with their best friend.
Finally it was time for recess and lunch. The class did very well lining up after recess was over and used good manners in the lunch room.
In the afternoon we practiced making patterns and designs with patterns blocks during math tub time.

Then we finished putting away all of our school supplies into our desks and chair pockets, went to PE and met Ms. Resheske, learned how to do our afternoon jobs, and finished up the day with one last read aloud entitled On the First Day of Grade School.
What a wonderful way to begin the school year!
